Hardscaping in Bucks County

Hardscaping is a fairly new word to the English language; it is the flagstone, bricks, pavers, stone, and other materials that make up the ‘hard' portion of the landscape around your home.  Here in Bucks County, hardscaping is often synonymous with the EP Henry brand of pavers.  While EP Henry is the dominant paver manufacturer in Pennsylvania, other paver brands are also available.  Additionally, there exists a multitude of other materials for your hardscape projects.

Concrete pavers have become very popular for Bucks County hardscaping projects.  Pavers come in many earth tone colors, and are available in different sizes and shapes, often mimicking the look of natural stone.  Creating a walk or patio using pavers provides a durable, low maintenance surface for pedestrian traffic and entertaining areas.  Unlike a concrete surface, pavers won't crack.  The compacted gravel base beneath a paver walk or patio provides a rigid, yet flexible surface that will endure through freeze-thaw cycles.  Additionally, hardscaping projects using pavers can be partially dismantled if underground utilities need to be accessed or for additional construction projects.  In addition to pavers, segmental retaining wall products are manufactured by EP Henry and other companies to match the colors of the pavers.

While pavers can be a great product for your hardscape, many homeowners throughout Bucks County prefer the look of natural stone or even old-fashioned clay bricks. Clay brick is still used today for traditional hardscaping projects.  If you want the look of a walk out of the colonial or federal periods, clay brick is a great choice.

Pennsylvania Bluestone is perhaps the most beautiful of the natural stone materials for use in walks and patios.  Available in both pattern-cut (squares and rectangles) and irregular flagstone, Pennsylvania Bluestone can provide a contemporary, traditional, or casual feel to your Bucks County hardscaping project.  Color ranges include blue-grey, green-grey, lilac, and rust.  Pennsylvania Fieldstone is a beautiful choice for use in retaining walls and steps and works well when combined with Pennsylvania Bluestone.

Other natural stone products are brought in from other states and imported from other countries.  Stone such as granite, travertine, sandstone, slate, and quartzite will give a unique look to your hardscaping project.

The choices for hardscaping materials are plentiful.  Consider the architectural style of your home along with your personal preferences, and choose the material that best matches.
